Ito Ang Pasko Ko: An Original Filipino Canadian Sarswela
What is a Sarswela?
In the late 19th and early 20th century, Sarswela emerged as a form of theatre that Barangays across the Philippines used to communicate political happenings of the Philppine-American War to the masses through the arts. Originally a Spanish form, KW Sentro authors these original Filipino musicals to dialogue with our audiences about critical issues in the Filipino diaspora.
What is the story?
The story begins by asking, in Waray, Pasko, HainKa Na? (Christmas, Where are you?). The KW Sentro Children’s and Adult choirs attempt to answer this question reflecting on the challenges Filipinos may feel being so far from home, feeling homesick, while interacting with Christmas from various Christian and non-Christian faith traditions.
Come see Ito Ang Pasko Ko to find out what Christmas means to us!
